For the first time, the most important Latin American gastronomy awards, Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, will take place in Rio de Janeiro, a city that is buzzing on the gastronomic scene. According to Rosa Moraes, president for Brazil of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, “Brazilian gastronomy has been gaining important space over the years, with new creative and professional talents. We are still known for the most emblematic classics, such as feijoada, moqueca and caipirinha, which are also unanimous abroad. But the innovation, diversity and technical level of our chefs have already become a reference.” Therefore, some famous international chefs will cook together in Rio, offering unique experiences.

O The 50 Best Signature Sessions This is a series of dinners that will take place between the 25th and 29th of November, in various restaurants in the city. Furthermore, on the 24th and 26th, renowned chefs will also cook together for the first time in the city. And on the 28th, the award ceremony for Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will take place at the iconic Belmond Copacabana Palace and, afterwards, a after party at the Fairmont it will bring together 600 people, with a Brazilian cocktail. O Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants was launched in 2013 and the list of winners is created by the Academy of Latin America’s 50 Best, made up of 300 gastronomy leaders. Dinners with international chefs in Rio
Naturalie Bistrô x El Chato x Nelita
On November 25th, talented Brazilian chef Nathalie Passos, from the vegetarian restaurant Naturalie Bistrô, will share her vegetable skills with those of two visiting chefs. The modern Colombian restaurant, El Chato, led by chef Álvaro Clavijo, for example, was elected as The Best Restaurant in Colombia in 2022. However, Nathalie will also be accompanied by the Brazilian Tássia Magalhães, who has a talent behind the refined restaurant of Italian inspiration, Nelita, in São Paulo.

Oteque x Skirt x Kol
On the 26th, Alberto Landgraf, from the award-winning Oteque, which ranked 12th in the 50 Best of 2022, will welcome two international chefs in Rio: Pía León, from Kjolle, in Lima, and Santiago Lastra, from Kol, in London . León, in fact, was named The World’s Best Female Chef in 2022, and is part of the team behind Central, which took 1st place on the podium of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 list. Created by the trio, The tasting menu will follow the host’s principles: it will present fish and seafood dishes prepared with excellence and modernity. Thus, with 7 steps, the meal will begin with a selection of Oteque’s best appetizers. Dishes include, for example, fresh raw fish with citrus cocoa emulsion, heart of palm salad, as well as sweet bread and sea urchin.

Lasai x Mugaritz x Boragó
On the 29th, Rafa Costa e Silva, chef-owner of Lasai (20th place in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022), also joins two international chefs in Rio: the Spanish Andoni Luis Aduriz, from Mugaritz, in San Sebastian (31st place in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023) and the Chilean Rodolfo Guzmán, from Boragó, in Santiago (10th in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022). Thus, each cook will sign dishes that make up an exquisite tasting menu.

‘Sud, The Green Bird’ x A Casa do Porco x Narda Comedor
Also on the 29th, an exclusive dinner will bring together three winners of the Latin America’s Best Female Chef award. The renowned Roberta Sudbrack, chef-owner of “Sud, O Pássaro Verde”, will share the kitchen with Narda Lepes, from Narda Comedor, in Buenos Aires, and with the recently crowned Janaína Torres Rueda, from A Casa do Porco, in São Paulo. Therefore, to celebrate female culinary talent, the six-course menu created by the trio will follow the philosophy of “Sud, The Green Bird”. Thus, in this experience full of joy and flavor, diners will have the opportunity to taste organic ingredients from small producers prepared using traditional culinary techniques, such as the clay oven.

Three chefs named Tomás and the Frenchman, Jérôme Dardillac, come together for a gastronomic experience: Tomás ao Cubo
On the 26th, Thomas Troisgros, with the recently opened Toto Ipanema, joins the international chef Tomás Kalika, from Buenos Aires Mishiguene (88th place in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022) and Tomás Bermúdez, from La Docena, in Guadalajara (42nd place in LatAm’s 50 Best 2022). Initially, the chefs will be together, from 5pm to 10pm, for a unique experience, which will take place at the magnificent Fairmont. In fact, the hotel’s executive chef, Jérôme Dardillac, will also join the trio. Thus, in a cocktail format, with a rotating service of mini portions, the meeting will take place at sunset, by the pool, overlooking Copacabana Beach.



From Portugal to Rio
Furthermore, also at the Fairmont Copacabana, but on the 24th, chef Jérôme Dardillac will welcome Portuguese chef João Oliveira, from Vista, a restaurant at the Bela Vista Hotel & Spa, which carries the seal Castles Relay, in Portimão, in the Algarve, for a delicious lunch at the Spirit Copa Bar. Winner of several awards, Oliveira specializes in sea cuisine and, therefore, it will be an opportunity to experience cuisine dedicated to this flavor, with the Copacabana sea as its scenario. In fact, he will be another international chef who will cook in Rio, during this period of 50 Besta biggest gastronomy award in Latin America.

In 2017, João Oliveira initially received a Michelin star and the award established him as an expert in regional fish. Thus, the menu (R$ 480) created by Jérôme Dardillac and João Oliveira reflects this love of seafood. Among the menu options, there are scallops, caviar, sea bass, mussels and oysters.

Rafa Gomes cooks with award-winning chefs at Tiara
Chef Rafa Gomes invited the duo Giovanna Grossi, from Animus, in São Paulo, and Gustavo Rinkevich, from Rocka Búzios, for lunch at Tiara, on November 26th. On the occasion, the chefs will prepare an unprecedented menu made by six hands, which aims to connect Rio, São Paulo and Búzios. Thus, the menu will be divided into eight stages and made up of suggestions ranging from initial canapés, starters, main course to desserts.






Therefore, the definition of the menu is done together, as Rafa and the guest chefs talk and prepare the recipes according to the specific characteristics of each one’s work. Among the various options on the menu (R$ 390), there are, for example, Beef Tartare with Oysters and Red Fruits, Rib and Cambuci Mille Feuille and Peking Duck in Spiced Honey with Carrot and Ginger.
